In partnership with American and Rwandan colleagues, we have had the honor of sponsoring events and offering ongoing professional law reform consulting to many esteemed institutions within the Justice Sector and Civil Society sectors in Rwanda. Working closely with the Rwandan Supreme Court and legal colleagues, Co-director Emily Gould has contributed to the development of trauma-informed dispute resolution in Rwanda for many years. In addition to the Supreme Court and Ministry of Justice, Emily has worked with the Kigali International Arbitration Center, the Rwandan Bar Association, the Rwandan Law Reform Commission, as well as Never Again Rwanda.
Emily served as the international consultant on Rwanda’s for the research and drafting for Rwanda’s ADR Policy, adopted in 2022, the first national justice policy in the world that explicitly calls for a trauma informed, restorative approach to conflict and harm in civil, criminal and administrative matters. Currently her work is focused on supporting the implementation of the ADR Policy with respect to those key aspects.
